Founders Footnotes: Meet the Designers Behind Home Story

While you may have read a bit of our story, we’d love to use this space to reveal more personal details about us and what led to our labor of love – Home Story Designs.

Our story is anchored in a shared passion for crafting homes that tell a unique narrative. It all began long before we launched this business, when our paths crossed at Humber College, where we studied interior design. The foundation of our work is deeply rooted in our childhood experiences, shaped by the influences of home, family, and creativity. These early inspirations have profoundly molded us into the designers and founders we are today.

Meet Robin Paget

Originally from Connecticut, I find the essence of home resonates most deeply here. Maybe it’s the charm of the historic architecture, the expansive yards, and the lush green spaces that accompany each residence. Stepping into my family’s homes, I feel an immediate sense of belonging. I could linger there forever. The warmth of the interiors, adorned with rich New England colours and art, gives me so much comfort. Most importantly, having my loved ones nearby is the heart of any home, adding a layer of cherished connection that makes every space truly special.

As a child, my life was marked by moving every six months. My father was an actuary and business exec responsible for the financial success of offices across the United States. I have him to thank for teaching us how to accept change, make friends with ease, and be comfortable in almost any environment. He provided the circumstances. But the truth is, it was my mother who managed every detail of every move. No matter the city, there was no stress of firsts or being uncomfortable with the unknowns. Every detail was planned, and to this day, I’m in awe of how she accomplished it all. She made every house our dream home.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I committed these homes to memory. To this day, I can sketch the layouts of the places we called “home” – starting from the age of 4. The gigantic family room in Plano, Texas; the laundry chute in the washroom in Long Island, New York; the screened-in breezeway and courtyard leading from house to garage in Little Rock, Arkansas. The intricate details and comforting atmospheres have left an indelible mark on me. Of course, along with this comes the ability to enter any home and envision how things could be. All the possibilities.

Fast forward many years, living in Canada with my husband and one sibling, I’ve come to realize how much I miss having a home filled with family. This longing has inspired me to create a space that reflects both my past and present – a sanctuary I never want to leave. Each carefully chosen detail speaks to my roots: the solid white oak floors that were sanded and finished on-site, cherished antiques that once belonged to my parents, original artwork, the soothing feel of a wool rug underfoot, and the soothing presence of music. I’m delighted to share this home with my chosen family of friends.

After three decades in the design world, my passion continues to flourish, bringing fresh creativity and inspiration every day. Lately, I’ve been captivated by an anonymous fellow walker who has been leaving bouquets of wildflowers along the trails. Their thoughtfully selected colours, the varied sizes of the blooms, and their placements – nestled in the nook of a tree or perched atop a boulder – are perfection. Pottery remains a constant passion for me, too; even when I'm not at the studio, it occupies my thoughts. Recently, these wildflower bouquets have sparked ideas for my next creation.

I’m grateful to my parents for instilling in me the excitement and dedication that guides this new creative venture with Home Story Designs. And a heartfelt thank you to Donna for proposing this journey together, along with choosing a brand name that represents our shared vision.

Meet Donna Griffiths

As a young woman, I always admired my mom’s incredible creativity and design skills; she truly stood out among other moms. Having attended fashion design school, she created her own clothes with meticulous care, designing beautiful pieces not just for me, but also for her grandchildren. Her creativity and attention to detail illuminated everything she touched.

She instilled in me the value of our family's cherished treasures from previous generations, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship, intricate details, and high-quality materials. Her bold decision to start a décor company with a friend at the age of 55 continues to inspire me as I embark on this next endeavor.

I have a deep appreciation for both classic and modern design elements, finding inspiration in the beautiful textures and rich colours present in even the simplest objects. The feel of natural fabrics, the interplay of unexpected hues and finishes, and the dance of natural light – along with the hidden meanings behind them – continually ignite my passion for design.

In my personal life, I cherish time spent with my husband, my three adult children and their partners, and enjoying our ‘resort-like’ backyard. My creative pursuits have led me to a lifelong love of music – a gift from my dad – along with playing piano, watercolour painting, and pottery over the years. Each new creative outlet has allowed me to hone my skills and embrace original concepts. I look forward to learning from each client and customer, and reveling in the process as every home transforms into something uniquely intriguing.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of opening a quaint design and décor shop filled with inspiring pieces. Thank you, Robin, for partnering with me on this new venture, and a heartfelt thank you to my mom for being my greatest inspiration.

This is where our next chapter begins. We look forward to being part of your home’s story.
